Vasilyevsky Island is one of the most interesting islands in St. Petersburg. The Malaya Neva River, Bolshaya Neva and the Gulf of Finland surround the island itself. It is estimated that over 200,000 people live in the Vasilyevsky Island district and the island itself is a portion of the center of St. Petersburg. Right across the island is the Winter Palace and Nevsky Prospect. The city is connected to the island by four famous bridges in St. Petersburg: the Palace Bridge, the Blagoveshchensky Bridge, the Exchange Bridge, and the Tuchkov Bridge.

One of the most famous parts of the island is called “Strelka”, which means “Arrow”, in English. This eastern part of the island features the Old St. Petersburg Stock Exchange and the great Rostral columns. At the “Strelka”, you can take great photos of the Neva River, as well as the embankments that surround it. The Hermitage, Peter and Paul Fortress, and several great bridges, make it one of the best places in St. Petersburg to take panoramic photos of St. Petersburg. Also, the island features some great architecture and nice streets to walk down that are only available for pedestrian use. In the spring and summer, Vasilyevsky Island is perhaps one of the nicest parts of St. Petersburg to walk around and to have a great time.
