The Yusupov Palace is located on the Moika river. A French architect Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe built the famous palace in the late 1700’s. For over 100 years, the palace belonged to the Yusopov family, a family in which was extremely wealthy during tsarist Russia. The palace inside is beautiful with vast, spacious rooms, and also is a museum to the murder of Rasputin. The basement of the museum has several small exhibits to the murdered monk who was so influential to the family of Tsar Nicholas II’s family.

Catherine Palace | Attractions

The Catherine Palace is located just outside of St. Petersburg in the small town of Pushkin. It was the summer residency of the tsars before the Bolshevik revolutions during the early 1900’s. The Palace is almost 300 years old and was constructed originally in 1717. The Palace is renowned for its beauty, inside and outside. The south side of the palace features a beautiful garden, and is a popular destination for tourists all year around. The palace is a beautiful site during the winter when the palace itself and the area around are covered in snow. It is also a great place to go in the spring and summer when the weather is nice and people can appreciate the outside of the palace during the great weather and take a walk around the garden.

THE AMBER ROOM

Amber room Catherine Palace

The historical Amber Room is located in the Catherine Palace near St. Petersburg. The room was designed by Andreas Schluter and Gotfried Wolfram, during the reign of the tsars. The room was stolen by the Nazis during World War Two, and was recreated in 2003. The room that people see now in the Catherine Palace is not the original, but still, photography is not allowed in the room at all.

Vasilyevsky Island is one of the most interesting islands in St. Petersburg. The Malaya Neva River, Bolshaya Neva and the Gulf of Finland surround the island itself. It is estimated that over 200,000 people live in the Vasilyevsky Island district and the island itself is a portion of the center of St. Petersburg. The "Divo Island" ("Divo Ostrov") amusement park in St. Petersburg is located in Primorsky Victory Park (Maritime Victory Park) near the metro station "Krestovsky Ostrov." TREE OF LOVE

Tree of Love

In St. Petersburg it is possible to see a Tree of Love! After the reconstruction of the Opochinin garden (сад Опочинина) was completed, someone planted a “tree of love”. The tree has small red leaves to create a heart shape. Now the lovers have a new tradition and place to bind their love unions. There is a lock and chest at the bottom of the tree in which you can put your little love union note or something else special inside.
