Scarlet Sails 2012

On Saturday June 23rd 2012, the annual Scarlet Sails (Russian: "Алые Паруса") event will take place. This event is a huge celebration for all the students who graduate high school around St. Petersburg. The event will start at 21:00 and the event is supposed to have 60,000 people attend. The organizers of the event want to have all 60,000 people take place in a dance, making it the largest flash-mob dance in the world, and hopefully will be put in the Guinness Book of World Records. Then at 23:00, a ball will take place at Palace Square, as well as a concert on Vasilevsky Island. This event is will be huge, and everyone is encouraged to attend!

Buddy Bears St-Petersburg

The Alexander Garden is hosting the event called “Bears of the World.” Two-meter tall bears can be found around the whole garden from June 21st to August 5th this summer. The official opening of this exhibition will take place today, June 22, at 5 pm. This is a non-profit project in which calls for peaceful coexistence around the world. The exhibit is organized with the support of the Consulate General of Germany in St. Petersburg along with the company, “Buddy Bear Berlin.” The Buddy Bear collection includes the total of 144 bears, painted by artists from different countries.The bears stand in a circle holding hands, and represent a call for tolerance and understanding between different peoples and cultures.

By 2014, the St. Petersburg Metro will purchase 126 new vandal proof cars with great new ventilation systems and upgraded cab with touch controls. The new cars will have features that will make it impossible for people to draw graffiti or place stickers in or on the wagons. The new ventilation system will be the greatest upgrade for our subway system. In the summer, the metro is very hot, thus making it uncomfortable to travel inside of it. With the new ventilation system, riding in the metro in the summer will be comfortable and pleasurable, as it is the most common way of transport in St. Petersburg.

St-Petersburg Moscow Train

The most popular and most comfortable way to travel to Moscow from St. Petersburg and vice-versa is by train. The Moscow-St. Petersburg Railway is 649.7 kilometers long. There are several ways to travel to and from Moscow from St. Petersburg by train.
The fastest current train travels around 250 kilometers per hour, and takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the journey. This train is called the SAPSAN. A more historical train is called the Krasnaya Strela, or the red arrow in English. Ever since 1931, this train has been departing from Moscow around 23:55 daily, and arriving in St. Petersburg around 07:55 the next morning. It is a piece of history of Russia, and when using this train, one can comfortably sleep at night and wake up in St. Petersburg or Moscow in the morning ready to go!
