Free Admission to the HermitageIn honor of the 250th anniversary of the State Hermitage Museum, on December 10th the largest collection of art treasures can be visited for free, the director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky announced.According to Piotrovsky, guests will have free admission until 21:00. In addition, every Thursday in December, visitors can check out the east wing of the General Staff building for free! This year the Hermitage celebrates the 250th anniversary of its founding. It was founded in 1764 when Empress Catherine II purchased the first large collection of paintings. Since then, the Hermitage’s birthday is December 7, and also the day of St. Catherine. |
