St. Petersburg will celebrate the City Day this coming Sunday, May 24thThis year St. Petersburg marks its 312th birthday. Traditionally, in honor of the grand event, there will be concerts, a lot of fun and entertainment.The actual birthday of Saint Petersburg falls on May 27 (Wednesday), but this year the celebration is scheduled for May 24 (Sunday). On this day, at 12:00 on the steps of St. Isaac's Cathedral choir will perform a symphony orchestra. Each viewer can become part of the choir: the organizers will distribute leaflets with the text, and the lyrics will be broadcasted on the big screens. Also, on May 24, starting at 14:00, the city will start the celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Joseph Brodsky. This day will be the opening of the museum-apartment of the poet’s former apartment on Liteniy Prospect, 24. At 21:00 on Palace Square will be held traditional opera concert and on May 27, the birthday of St. Petersburg, the citizens will be able to join the ceremony of laying flowers to the monument to Peter I. |
