By one o'clock in the morning on May 30, the St. Petersburg fire department managed to eliminate open burning of the Institute of Technology’s roof. The fire partially collapsed the roof of an area of about 600 square meters, including the famous dome. The total area of fire was about 2 thousand square meters. 33 units of fire equipment and about 500 personnel were needed to put the fire out. A message about the fire was received at 21:30. A few minutes later, the first fire fighters arrived at the scene. At the time of fire, classes at the Institute of Technology had already finished, and the building was empty. Traffic on Moscow Avenue was blocked. The St. Petersburg State Institute of Technology is one of the leading universities of Russia. The University trains specialists in the fields of chemistry, biotechnology, mechanics, cybernetics, and nanotechnology. The university was founded in 1828 on the orders of Emperor Nicholas I.
