100,000 people will greet the Olympic torch in St. Petersburg

On October 27th and 28th, runners will come through the streets of St. Petersburg. 500 torchbearers, to be exact, will take the Olympic torch from Greece and will arrive in St. Petersburg. The traditional symbol of the Olympics has already visited many countries around the world and even in outer space, and now arrives in St. Petersburg. 

If you wish to see the Olympic flame, it is necessary to be at Ploshad Pobedi (Victory Square), where the flame will begin the trip through St. Petersburg. The trip, which is 70 kilometers in length, will go along Moskovsky Prospect. The torch will visit the Central, Petrogradsky, and Vasiliostrovsky areas. The torch will also visit the Pushkin district and Kronstadt.

Many people will be carrying the torch, as well as media and VIPs. Among the list of 254 names are Zenit St. Petersburg striker Alexander Kerzhakov, Olympic champions in different years, including: Lyubov Egorova, Maria Gusakova, Lyuba Mukhacheva, biatholonists Anatoly Alyabyev and Dmitry Vasiliev, skaters Oleg Vasiliev, Alexey Urmanov, Oksana Kazakova, Elena Berezhnaya, Evgeny Plushenko, and many others.

Also to take part in the relay is musician Igor Butman, choreographer Gediminas Taranda, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medina and director of "Hermitage" Michael Piotrovsky.

The last time St. Petersburg hosted the Olympic torch relay in 2008 as part of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
