The new terminal of Pulkovo is almost ready to open

Travelers will be able to depart from the new terminal already this month. After this, Pulkovo 1 will be closed for restoration, which is planned to be completed by July 2014.

The modernization project of the Pulkovo airport is a unique example of public-private partnership. The total investment in the project, which will last until the end of 2014, will cost up to 1.2 billion Euros.

The main terminal building and the northern gallery landing and duplex transport overpass are ready. There will also be a parking complex, four-star hotel and a business center near the terminal.

The architect of the new terminal is the London bureau, Grimshaw & Partners Ltd, which has already implemented more than 100 projects, including: Zurich International Airport, Manchester, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and International Terminal Waterloo Station in London.

The new passenger terminal and the northern landing gallery reflect the architectural features of historic buildings in St. Petersburg. The wavy ceiling on the first floor of the terminal is a reflection of the surface of the Neva and the golden roof represents the bright lights of the city skyline.
