Why is the city's main Christmas tree on Palace Square artificial this year?St. Petersburg residents chose whether the tree should be a natural one or an artificial one by an online vote. The vote was in favor of the artificial tree. The collected data allowed the municipal authorities to decide to "change" the tradition of Christmas trees on Palace Square. This will happen for the first time in 20 years. The tree is already set up on Palace Square and is expected to be decorated by Demeber 20, two days prior to the visit of Ded Moroz.
