Sredny Prospect, Vasilievsky Island

By 2016, the Sredniy Prospect on Vasilevsky Island might become a new pedestrian zone. The plans for the street include the widening of sidewalks and leaving only two lanes for public transport. Cars will not be able to travel on the street at all. The project will develop starting in 2013. Now the program is just beginning with Vasilevsky Island, but it could be possible that Nevsky Prospect will also be a pedestrian street by 2020, eliminating all the noise of cars and buses.

Outdoor circus show

On September 22nd, the Race Horse Company from Finland will be having a show at the Peter and Paul Fortress. The show is called the Rusty Road Circus. The entrance is free and it will start at 12:00 in the area in front of the Tsar bastion. The festival is called the “Contemporary Art in Traditional Museum.” First in the courtyard enters an old van and the dynamic road circus show begins. Acrobats jump out of the van and begin a wild show around the whole area.

New Trains in St-Petersburg Metro

Silent Trains

Starting in December in St. Petersburg, there will be new metro trains that will operate on the green line. The trains are after a model called “Neva.” The city has bought these trains because they are much faster and for the most important reason, they are silent. The trains can reach a speed of around 90 miles an hour and make little to no noise at all. It is a great improvement from the current trains in operation, which are noisy and uncomfortable.

Next spring in St. Petersburg there will be a nice surprise. The city authorities decided to return a dancing floating fountain to the Neva River. The fountain spent four years in the warehouse in an unfolded state and will be located close to the Vasilievsky Island.

Closing Ceremony of Peterhof fountains

From September 14th to September 15th, there will be a festival at Petergof for the closing of the fountains until next spring. The festival begins at 21:00 and is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Guests will see a massive multimedia show with the latest lighting and pyrotechnic technology. Along with this, surround sound and a laser show will give viewers a front row seat into the action of the War of 1812, promising to be an amazing spectacle. The scenes are to consist of: the burning of Moscow, court ball in 1812, the heroic battle, and the Battle of Borodino.

Probably the most popular and fun street in St. Petersburg as far as drinking is concerned. :) Dumskaya is located next to Gostiny Dvor and Nevskiy Prospect metro stations. This street is famous for its bars and clubs, in which teens and those who are in their twenties and even thirties come for a great time. Freebike Project

As promised, by the end of the summer, St. Petersburg has started a public bicycle project called “freebike.” During the summer, everyone brought their old bikes to the store “Skatprokat”, where they repaired and painted all the old bicycles. This weekend, the first bikes arrived at the park Sosnovka, ready to ride! Also, bikes will be available next to the metro station Gorkovksaya. In the near future, public bicycles will also be available at the Tavricheskiy Garden (Таврический сад).
