By one o'clock in the morning on May 30, the St. Petersburg fire department managed to eliminate open burning of the Institute of Technology’s roof.

The fire partially collapsed the roof of an area of about 600 square meters, including the famous dome. The total area of fire was about 2 thousand square meters.

33 units of fire equipment and about 500 personnel were needed to put the fire out.

On the Petrograd side in the area of Prospect Dobrolyubova, there have recently appeared cool tulip seats which are truly an art facility.

The chairs are made in the form of closed tulip buds. The Dutch government gave the chairs to the city for the 310th anniversary of St. Petersburg. Such objects can be found in many European cities. 

On June 14th, and June 16th-17th, residents of St. Petersburg will be able to see a night sailboat show. This year, two international sailing regattas, Adventure Race 80dg and Ust-Luga Cup, will pool their fleets for the biggest sailing event in 2013 in St. Petersburg. The romantic event starts on June 14th.

As part of the festival program at 14:00 at Blagoveshensky Bridge, there will be a parade of sails, which will feature 23 boats from 8 countries. City residents will enjoy a beautiful spectacle that will be visible for several hours.

At a press conference dedicated to the celebration of the 310th anniversary of St. Petersburg, journalists confirmed that the firework show on City Day this year wouldn’t take place. 

The official declaration of this announcement was given yesterday by the vice-governor of St. Petersburg, Vasily Kichedzhi, stating that the nearest fireworks show will take place only on the day of the 70th anniversary of the full liberation of the Nazi blockade of Leningrad on January 27, 2014. 

And also on City Day in St. Petersburg, officials claim to be preparing other equally spectacular events. Some of them are still kept a secret from the citizens.

As part of the City Day celebration, there is an astonishing fireworks display that lights up downtown St. Petersburg. The show is best seen from the bridges of downtown St. Petersburg or from the embankments that surround the Neva River. But the ultimate way to see the show is to go up and down the Neva River on a boat. Everyone this year will be able to board a comfortable boat to travel along the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg! The event lasts for two hours and the culmination of the evening will be a fireworks display. Price: 700 RUB if purchased no later than May 25th. In case a ticket is purchased on May 26th, the price will be 750-800 rubles. 

From July 18th until August 31st, there is a great sand sculpture festival at the Peter and Paul Fortress.

Dozens of teams from around the world has gathered on the beach of the Peter and Paul Fortress in order to create something unimaginable. When looking at the sculptures, it is hard to believe that everything is really made of sand.

From September 12-15, there will be a huge art festival on Liteniy Prospect in the heart of St. Petersburg. The art festival will feature street art and the aim of the festival is to create a metaphorical urban like garden. The site will be selected courtyards and walkways along Liteniy Prospect. The festival will feature also artists, writes, mini-gardens, and performances.

Today, on May 18th, the Russian museum will be free to the public.

On the occasion of the annual International Festival - "Night of the Museums" entry to all branches of the Russian Museum will be free. Citizens and guests of our city will be able, from 10:00 to 18:00, to visit:

Today, May 18 at the Tavricheskiy garden, there will be an outdoor cinema! The cinema will be working for 5 days and residents and visitors will be able to see the St. Petersburg, Russian, and foreign films about nature, children's animated films and paintings on environmental issues.

On July 19th to July 20th the Trinity Bridge will turn into a giant movie screen on which cartoons will be shown. The event will take place simultaneously in St. Petersburg and Amsterdam. The viewers be able to see a program consisting of short animated films in which is using "Multivision" in two different cities.
